+ Great view of Cass and the Greenbrier River from the balcony.
- No cell service (you're deep in the heart of WV, y'all!)
+ Free wifi & HDTV with Dish TV
Great so far real close to the cass train ride
Quaint, rustic, and clean lodging across the Greenbrier River from Cass Scenic Railroad and about a 15 minute drive to Snowshoe.
DO NOT BELIEVE THE WEBSITE this place is HUGELY misrepresented!
- No phone, coffee maker, or fridge in the room (but they sell ice downstairs)
+ Country-style restaurant, well-stocked convenience store (with beer!), & gift shop on the first floor
+ Convenient to Cass, Snowshoe, & the Greenbrier River Trail
This place is HORRIBLE! It is not a LODGE it's a few crappy rooms over a carry out and basically the local flop house. All of the bedding was filthy, air didn't work, no phone, room was dirty, shower was like someone wringing a rag out overhead until it quit altogether, "restaurant " is a few tables in the store with awful gas station food!
The railroad restaurant was closed by 5:30, so we ate here as we already had a reservation to stay here. The room looked like the picture show above. Except for the cobwebs. The AC DID NOT WORK it was 88 degrees when we came back after dinner(this is a week before the opening of the season. No one ever did reply to our request for a room change. the other couple that was there did and found very little relief for the NO ac in either of their rooms. So we opened the door to the balcony (covered in dead bugs and cobwebs) the curtains fell on us several times. The door handle to the balcony door was ready to fall off good thing they had a slide lock for a gate to secure it. The balcony has easy access to the front side for a fire escape and is not secure. A dead june bug greeted us in the corner of the door and the shower was a trickle of low pressure water. Sheets and comforters looked very dusty as did the rest of the room and bathroom. toilet had a ring. For the price it was not worth what we paid but it was late and the cabins at the railroad (no ac either) we already closed too. The Bear Creek restaurant is NOT a great place to eat either, I was confused and was thinking this was the rt66 place at Snowshoe up the road. I was wrong it was a little deli/pizza place inside the convenient store. Really take a picnic with you or get to the railroad place before they close at 5:30.
+ Inexpensive ($69/nt)
Cozy place with all amenities expected in a rustic setting. Beautiful view of the creek from the back patio door o your bedroom that opens on a nice balcony. Drive up to Snowshoe takes about 20mn. Nice shop downstairs and friendly owners and staff. We recommend the place! Very reasonable rates too!
Rooms are clean with VERY comfy beds. Note that this is rustic style lodging in one of the most remote parts of WV, so if you're not used to that sort of thing, then you're only other option is to stay at Snowshoe, but you'll pay $$$ for it.
